Grandma reads your four pillars.
Tell her when and where you were born. She works out your saju chart, the eight characters of your birth, and tells you what they say about you.
Old Korean astrology, done carefully.
- Your four pillars. Saju (사주, "four pillars") turns the year, month, day and hour of your birth into eight characters: a top character and an animal for each.
- The sun's calendar. Your saju year starts at Ipchun, the start of spring around 4 February, not on 1 January or Lunar New Year. Months start on the solar terms, the sun's markers through the year, timed to the minute.
- The sun's clock. Grandma moves your clock time to local solar time, using your city's longitude and its full time-zone history, daylight saving and all.
- Korean tables. Hidden characters follow the Korean table, and the day changes at 11 PM, when the Rat hour starts.
